Situated on the banks of the Nashwaak River, Marysville is a popular residential neighbourhood on Fredericton’s Northside.
With schools, walking trails, and more located nearby, it’s difficult to imagine the area in its original state: an industrial community with a history in logging and cotton. However, glimpses of the past are visible with the rehabilitated cotton mill building, as well as many of the brick duplexes – all built in the 19th century. With this rich history, the Marysville Historic District has been designated as a national history site.
The Marysville Neighbourhood in the 21st Century
Now, the community has spread and encompasses various other century homes and newer subdivisions. It has remained a popular area to live in with its proximity to the Gibson-Neill Memorial Elementary School, as well as various other schools in the nearby Devon and Nashwaaksis neighbourhoods. Additionally, Marysville is conveniently situated near main travel routes, including the Marysville Bypass which leads to the Princess Margaret Bridge. Further amenities include various churches, outdoor spaces such as baseball fields, and of course the fantastic city trails.
Enjoy idyllic views of the Nashwaak River and surrounding woodlands along the Nashwaak trail and Gibson trail. Perfect for nature lovers or those who prefer a bicycle over a car, these trails provide a great retreat or handy access to city amenities. These trails lead directly to the Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge in Devon, connecting Fredericton’s north and south sides. The city is quite literally at your fingertips! Additionally, the Nashwaak River is favourable for fishing, kayaking, and tubing.
In addition to baseball fields and walking trails, Marysville also hosts the Downings Street Basketball Court and playpark, a Heritage Centre, and an outdoor pool. You will find various coffee shops, a walk-in clinic, and a handful of commercial offerings within walking distance. In short, life in Marysville is both quiet and convenient.
Housing in Marysville
Aside from the famed brick duplexes, the community consists largely of single family homes, although there are some 2-units or homes with basement apartments, as well. Situated conveniently between Marysville and the nearby Devon neighbourhood, Brown Boulevard hosts various condominiums for those who prefer a reduced-maintenance lifestyle.
